Any design
NOT PRE-PRICED that the artist estimates will take 2 hours or less will
have a minimum price and a maximum price. The maximum will not exceed
20% of the minimum. You will know the least and the most it will cost
to get the design you want before you get started.
Any design
that the artists estimates will take longer than 2 hours will be charged
by the hour.
Q.
Why is there a minimum charge?
A.
The minimum charge is based upon the time and supplies used to set up
and then to clean and disinfect the work area afterwards. This procedure
is basically the same no matter how long the tattoo takes to do. There
are no shortcuts to keeping a safe and clean environment.
Q.
Why do different parts of the body cost more than others?
A.
Different parts of the body are more difficult to do and take more time.
For example, the tattoo placed on the lower back becomes as much as 30
% larger when the person leans forward to stretch the skin during the
tattoo procedure. The skin must be stretched as tight as possible for
a tattoo to be done properly. The difficulty of tattooing areas such as
the chest and hips are not obvious but the artist can only stretch small
sections at a time in these areas.
Q.
Why do prices vary from artist to artist in the same shop for the same
design?
A. Every
artist looks at a design differently, evaluating how much time it will
take them personally to tattoo the design. Some will see more time devoted
to color, tribal black and some to complex line work. Some artists excel
at certain styles which they can do faster but feel they need more time
on other designs to achieve the best results. Although estimating time
is a guessing game at best, there is rarely more than a 20 % difference
between one artist and another.
